Just finished 'East of Eden' by John Steinbeck. I don't think I've ever highlighted so many beautiful passages in a novel before. Definitely worth reading, especially in these troubled times.
I knew the film, but that only dealt with a fraction of the whole story (and, annoyingly, it left out one of the most important characters!)
What's it about, you ask? This quote sums it up nicely:
"I believe that there is one story in the world, and only one. . . . Humans are caught—in their lives, in their thoughts, in their hungers and ambitions, in their avarice and cruelty, and in their kindness and generosity too—in a net of good and evil. . . . There is no other story."
Have a good weekend, and happy reading.
