Today marks 20 years since 'Rose', the first episode of the 2005 'Doctor Who' revival aired, featuring Christopher Eccleston as the leather-jacket-wearing, witty and dorky 9th Doctor and Billie Piper as Rose Tyler, ending a 16 year hiatus.
Hard to believe that it's already been 2 decades. Ever since I stumbled upon reruns of Tom Baker’s Doctor, I've had a special place in my heart for this show. I'd say despite its weirdness, but it's more likely because of it. It had a limited budget, plenty of campiness, extra cheese, and lots of heart (two hearts, to be precise), and it made this combo work.
It's not for everyone, and that's OK, and it had its hits and misses since it first aired back in 1963, but at a time where so much of the current entertainment confuses cynicism and bleakness with realism, and edgy and misanthropic is presented as cool, I'm glad that shows that remain unapologetically silly, and hopeful, and sometimes sentimental, and at the same time always relevant and political still have their place. So I'm happy this peculiar little show is still around doing its thing.

Madeline devient la seule présentatrice du journal et Toby reste producteur.
On retrouve avec plaisir les 3 acteurs principaux dans d'autres registres que leurs précédentes séries : Hugh Bonneville (#DowntownAbbey), Karen Gillan (Amy Pond dans #DrWho) et Alex Kingston (River Song dans Dr Who).
Dr Who est décidément bien présent puisque Steven Moffat en est aussi le scénariste et créateur, avant de se lancer dans l'excellente série Sherlock.

I was thinking about it and there are a lot of similarities between Ark in Space (1975) and Alien (1979). Unstoppable, exoskeleton covered aliens that use humans to brood their young, check. Tense scene crawling through maintenance ducts never knowing when the aliens might strike, check. Crew in plastic covered sleep pods, check. Killing an alien with a rocket engine, check. Hmmm....

Okay. That Dr. Who trailer is something. The franchise has money to spend, and they're spending it on special effects. 100 out of 10 for that.

When I was a kid, my parents weren't home much. I would get home from school, fix myself something to eat and tune into PBS to watch Dr. Who. My schedule plus the nature of broadcast TV meant that I got to see most of some of the stories. Luckily, I just discovered that all the classic episodes are on Tubi! #DrWho #tv #genx #scifi
